Press release: Grontmij wins second large contract from Turkish government
De Bilt, 26 October 2011 – Further to a contract win for the Turkish government as announced on 12 July 2011, Grontmij now has been assigned a second large contract as technical assistance consultant by the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC). Grontmij is to support the IPA Unit within the MoTC, which is responsible for the effective implementation of EU funds for transportation programs. The total consultancy contract value for Grontmij is more than € 5 million. The commencement date for the project is November 2011 and it will last until November 2015.
As official member candidate to the European Union, Turkey receives funds from the EU’s general budget. IPA (Instrument for Pre-Accession assistance) is the name of this fund Turkey and other candidate countries receive for the EU accession. The Ministry of MoTC is responsible for the transportation operational programs and the implementation of the relevant EU requirements in Turkey. The IPA unit is part of the ministry and responsible for management and implementation of the EU funds in this field.
The purpose of Grontmij’s consultancy contract is to strengthen institutional, administrative and technical capacity of the IPA Unit within the MoTC, for effective management and implementation of the Transport Operational Programme and projects financed under that programme. The project also aims to build the capacity of the end-recipients for the preparation and management of EU funded projects properly.
